Hong Kuai essential oil is steam-distilled from the wood of fallen logs from the Taiwan Cooperative Farm and Distillery in Taitung, Taiwan. Branches from these sacred trees are broken naturally by typhoons and washed down the river, where they can be collected and harvested by the farm. Hong kuai trees are protected and traditionally used in the construction of temples and shrines in Taiwan.
